Tucked high in Northern California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains, this custom-built, three level home was designed as a retreat for a Bay Area family to enjoy across generations. Three years in the making, this expansive second home balances large family gathering areas with intimate tucked-away spaces and features a warm, rich, textural aesthetic throughout.

Our clients, both Bay Area executives, envisioned a deeply personal retreat for themselves and their young adult children. They wanted a unique home that would lean into craftsmanship at every level. From the stone masonry and custom wood timber trusses to the extensive metal fabrication throughout, the entire project was a collaboration of local craftsmen and artisans.

The use of authentic materials and the high level of craftsmanship make this mountain home feel distinctive, luxurious and yet, livable. As the interior designer, it was my goal to create a home that makes you want to spend time there...cooking in the kitchen, sitting on the deck sipping a morning coffee or gathering with family around the fire-pit under the stars. I think the feeling of warmth and relatability comes through in this project and it felt incredible to design that kind of home for this lucky family.
